It discloses a person's disclosable court outcomes — which may include convictions, findings of guilt with no conviction, good behaviour bonds or other court orders, pending charges, and traffic offence history — drawn from police records across all Australian states and territories. It is commonly required by employers for pre-employment screening, by licensing bodies, by volunteer and community organisations, NDIS and aged care providers, and government agencies.

The Check Results Report is issued by the ACIC through the National Police Checking Service, based on police information provided by Australian police agencies. National Clearance Australia verifies your identity, submits your application to the ACIC, and delivers the ACIC-issued result to you. All ACIC-accredited bodies have the same access to the Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.

The majority of checks submitted through National Clearance Australia are returned within 1–2 business days. Some applications are referred to police agencies for manual processing — typically where an applicant's name closely matches existing police records — and these can take longer.
