What Is a Police Check?

A Police Check, or Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC), is an official document summarising an individual's disclosable court outcomes from Australian police databases. It is recognised nationwide and can be expedited for a fee.

Definition

A police check — formally known as a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) — is an official document summarising an individual's disclosable court outcomes from police databases across all Australian states and territories.

What It Covers

The check draws information from every Australian police jurisdiction, including state and territory police forces, the Australian Federal Police, and correctional services databases. It is coordinated through the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC).

What It Is Not
  • It is not a State Police Certificate — that covers a single state only.
  • It does not include overseas criminal records.
  • It is not the same as an ASIC/MSIC security clearance or a Working With Children Check.
Nationally Recognised

An NCCHC is accepted by employers, licensing bodies, professional associations, and government agencies across all of Australia.
