What Is Identity Verification and Why Is It Required?
Identity verification ensures police checks are conducted on the correct individual, preventing fraud and misrepresentation. It involves a 100-point ID check and can be completed digitally without visiting a post office.
Identity verification is a mandatory ACIC requirement for every police check — it confirms the check is run on the right person and prevents fraud. National Clearance Australia verifies you online, with no post office visit.
-
Why it's required
Identity verification is mandatory for all NCCHCs under ACIC rules. It ensures the check is conducted on the correct individual and prevents fraud, misrepresentation, and identity theft.
-
The 100-point check
You must provide ID totalling at least 100 points under the ACIC framework:
- 70 points: primary documents (e.g. passport, birth certificate)
- 40 points: secondary documents with photo (e.g. driver licence)
- 25 points: supporting documents (e.g. Medicare card, utility bill)
-
Digital verification
We use a digital identity verification process — no post office visit and no in-person certification. You're guided through each step during your online application.

Quick tip
Have your passport or driver licence ready before starting — they're the most efficient documents for meeting the 100-point requirement.
