What Is Shown on a Police Check?
Learn about the information disclosed in a police check, including disclosable court outcomes, and what is excluded, such as dismissed charges and spent convictions. Priority processing is available for faster results.
A police check discloses disclosable court outcomes (DCOs) — findings of guilt from Australian courts for offences that meet the disclosure criteria set by each state and territory. The purpose of your check may affect which outcomes are disclosed.
- Convictions (including spent convictions in some circumstances)
- Findings of guilt with no conviction recorded
- Charges that resulted in a court outcome
- Charges that were dismissed, withdrawn, or resulted in acquittal
- Spent convictions (in most purposes, subject to applicable Spent Convictions legislation)
- Pending charges or matters before the courts
- Overseas convictions
- Juvenile records (in most circumstances)
If your check returns no disclosable court outcomes, your certificate will state this clearly. This is the result for the majority of applicants.
